General Vortex Energy, Inc. (GVE) is a Texas based C-Corporation that was founded in April 2002. GVE owns a portfolio of intellectual property related to combustion technology and thermodynamic process optimization. GVE is currently focused on the final development and commercialization of the ‘Vortex Combustor’ which will have wide applications in low-emission and fuel flexible gas turbine systems.
GVE has developed an intellectual property portfolio using $5mm in funding from the Office of Naval Research and $2m from private investors. GVE has secured 3 patents and has recently applied for a fourth patent and an additional provisional application for our technologies. GVE has demonstrated successful stable and low-emission combustion of glycerin, propane and jet fuel within the ‘vortex combustor’ and is currently obtaining 3rd party performance and emissions data on a 400kW thermal combustion system running propane and jet fuel at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI). Immediately following the SwRI test in San Antonio, the technology will be scaled and integrated into existing OEM turbine packages for practical fielded demonstration of the GVE’s combustion system advantages.
Following these tests GVE expects to retrofit legacy gas turbine systems for enhanced fuel flexibility or to lower emissions for systems that are currently operating under difficult emissions ceilings. GVE will also be targeting OEM’s for use of the ‘vortex combustor’ in new gas turbine packages in the micro to 5MW+ power ranges.
